How RNKD ranks work

On RNKD there's no “intermediate” checkbox and no self-rating. Your rank comes from your results at real tournaments. Play, win, and it goes up. Lose and it comes down.

Every rank has three parts: a Tier like Gold, a Division like II (so “Gold II”), and RP (RNKD Points), your progress inside that division, from 0 to 99. That's all a rank is, and it's all you'll see.

The eight tiers

From lowest to highest: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, Legend.

  • BronzeIV · III · II · I
  • SilverIV · III · II · I
  • GoldIV · III · II · I
  • PlatinumIV · III · II · I
  • DiamondIV · III · II · I

Divisions inside a tier

Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond each have four divisions, counted from the bottom up:

DivisionWhere it sits
IVEntry to the tier
IIISecond step
IIThird step
ITop of the tier. The next promotion moves you up a tier

So Gold IV is where Gold starts, and Gold I is one step from Platinum IV.

The top three tiers

Elite, Champion, and Legend have no divisions. Once you pass Diamond I, your RP keeps adding up with no 100-point cap, and your RP total decides which of the three you're in. These tiers are meant to be rare.

Tiers are fixed bars, not percentages. RNKD doesn't put the top 5% in Legend just because someone has to be there. Early on, the highest tiers in a sport may be empty, and the #1 player on a ladder may still be mid-tier. That's intended. Someone has to earn it first.

How RP works

Earning and losing RP

  • Win a match: you earn RP, usually somewhere between 10 and 30.
  • Lose a match: you lose RP, usually between 10 and 30.

The amount isn't the same every time. Upsets pay more: beating a stronger team earns more RP, and losing to a stronger team costs less.

Promotion

Each division holds 0 to 99 RP. Reach 100 RP and you're promoted to the next division, and the count starts over there. From Diamond I, the next promotion takes you into Elite.

Demotion, and the safety net

Drop below 0 RP and keep losing, and you can be demoted a division. Two things soften it:

  • A grace period after every promotion. For a couple of matches right after you move up, you can't be knocked straight back down. One bad game won't undo a promotion.
  • A floor. Bronze IV is the bottom. You can't drop below it.

If you fall out of Elite, you land back in Diamond I with most of a division's RP, not at zero.

Rotating teammates

Some sports let a roster carry more players than the court holds. If your team rotates players in and out, each player's RP for a result is scaled by how much of it they were on court for.

Placement matches

Your first 5 ranked matches are placement matches. During placement:

  • you don't have a rank yet,
  • you don't appear on the leaderboard,
  • and after your 1st match, the Rankings screen shows a preview of where you'd land if placement ended today. It moves with every match.

On your 5th ranked match, you're placed directly into the tier and division that fit how you played. There's no default starting point, and nobody starts everyone in Silver and makes them grind out of it.

What counts toward your rank

Only paid tournaments move your rank. If an event has an entry fee, every match you play there counts. Free events are great for playing, but they never change your RP.

One rank per sport, team size, and division

Your rank is separate for:

  • each sport and team size. You can be Gold in 2v2 volleyball and Silver in 6v6.
  • coed, men's, and women's events. They're different fields of players, so a result in one doesn't move your rank in another. Winning a men's tournament climbs your men's rank and leaves your coed rank where it was.

Because they're separate, placement is separate too. Play both men's and coed, and you'll play placement matches in each.

The leaderboard

The leaderboard is ordered by tier, then RP, so ladder position always agrees with rank. A Gold II player is never listed below a Gold III.

  • The public leaderboard shows the top 50.
  • You can always see your own position, even outside the top 50.
  • Players still in placement aren't listed.
  • You can hide yourself from all leaderboards in your privacy settings.

FAQ

How do I get a rank on RNKD?

Play 5 ranked matches at paid tournaments in the same sport, team size, and division (coed, men's, or women's). After the 5th, you're placed.

Why didn't my rank change after a tournament?

Most likely it was a free event. Only tournaments with an entry fee count. If you're still in placement, you'll see your preview move but won't have a rank until the 5th match.

How much RP is a win worth?

Usually 10 to 30. Upsets pay more: beating a stronger team earns more RP, and losing to a stronger team costs less.

Can I lose a division right after I get promoted?

Not immediately. There's a short grace period after every promotion.

What's the highest rank?

Legend. Elite, Champion, and Legend sit above Diamond and have no divisions.

Does my coed rank affect my men's or women's rank?

No. Each division is its own ladder with its own placement.

Is my rank the same in every sport?

No. You have a separate rank for each sport and team size, so you can be Gold in 2v2 volleyball and Silver in 6v6.

Can I rate myself or pick a starting level?

No. Your rank only comes from results.
